Real Safety - Anti-slip and GRP composites
Real Safety and Reál Marine – reunited on anti-slip in Norway
Real Safety was founded in 2005 in Esbjerg, Denmark, with one clear ambition: to prevent slip and fall accidents in demanding work environments. Founder Torben Farup built the company on experience from the offshore oil and gas sector, where even small accidents can have serious consequences. In 2007, he experienced a serious fall accident himself, which strengthened the driving force behind the products Real Safety delivers today.
Anti-slip products were originally part of Reál Marine's range in Norway. As the product area grew, it was spun off as a separate company under the Real Safety brand. Now, Reál Marine can once again offer the complete Real Safety range to Norwegian customers, with local advice and fast delivery throughout Norway.
Products developed for the toughest environments
Real Safety develops and manufactures award-winning anti-slip products in glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) used on offshore platforms, production ships, supply vessels, shipyards, refineries, and industrial plants worldwide. Today, the company has 12 employees, is located in premises of over 1,600 m² in Esbjerg with its own workshop and production facility, and is ISO 9001 certified.
All products are prefabricated for installation without hot work. This means faster installation, simpler work permits, and less downtime on operational installations.

Real Safety Anti-slip stair treads
Full-width anti-slip stair treads covering the entire step surface. FRP with aluminum oxide anti-slip grit, rated R13 according to DIN 51130. Can be customized with logos, prints, or safety information in various color combinations. Supplied in lengths from 450 to 3000mm as standard, and in depths of 150, 230, or 300mm. Can also be cut to desired dimensions! Coarse for industrial use, extra coarse for offshore.
Real Safety anti-slip stair nosing
Anti-slip stair nosings that are installed on the leading edge of steps, where most slip accidents occur. Safety Yellow (RAL 1003) provides high contrast and visibility. R13-rated anti-slip surface with aluminium oxide grit. Fixed depth of 75 mm, lengths from 450 to 3000 mm or custom sizes. Retrofit onto existing stairs without special tools!
Real Safety anti-slip ladder rungs
Anti-slip ladder rungs that can be mounted directly onto existing ladders, regardless of the surface. Anti-slip coating in aluminum oxide (mesh 24, coarse) provides R13-rated slip resistance, even in wet and oily environments. Available in half-round (Ø 20–35 mm) or channel profiles, in lengths of 300–500 mm and custom dimensions. Safety Yellow for maximum visibility!
Square ladder rungs can also be used to convert round rungs to meet the requirements of DIN 18799-1
Real Safety anti-slip walkway cover
Anti-slip walkway cover in fiber-reinforced polyester (FRP) that does not corrode. Anti-slip surface classified as R13 provides very high slip resistance on walkways, platforms, and decks. Manufactured by pultrusion with 55–65% fiberglass, flame-retardant and UV-stabilized. Available in Safety Yellow or optional color combinations, in both industrial and extra coarse offshore grit.
real safety anti-slip escape route marker
FRP escape route markers with anti-slip surface and high-visibility Safety Yellow (RAL 1003). Arrows indicate the fastest route to safety. Classified R13 according to DIN 51130 and TÜV Rheinland certified. Easily installed on existing escape routes regardless of surface or weather conditions. Aluminum oxide grit in coarse (4.4 mm) or extra coarse (6.5 mm) for offshore and heavy industry.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What are Real Safety anti-slip products made of?
The products are made of FRP (fiber-reinforced polyester/fiberglass composite) with embedded aluminum oxide grit. The material does not corrode, withstands thermal shock from -40 °C to +66 °C, and is fire-retardant. All anti-slip products are classified R13 according to DIN 51130, which is the highest level of slip resistance.
What is the difference between Step Cover (stair tread) and Step Nosing (stair nosing)?
Step Cover covers the entire stair surface (width 150, 230 or 300 mm) and provides full anti-slip protection. Step Nosing is a narrower profile (75 mm) that only covers the front edge of the step, where most slipping incidents occur. Nosing is faster to install and is often used where existing steps have good friction, but lack visible marking of the step edge.
Which grit size should I choose: coarse or extra coarse?
Coarse (mesh 24, 4.4 mm height) is suitable for industrial and commercial environments. Extra coarse (mesh 12, 6.5 mm height) is recommended for offshore, maritime, and heavy industry where exposure to oil, grease, and seawater requires maximum friction.
Can anti-slip ladder rungs be mounted on existing ladders?
Yes. The ladder rungs are designed as a retrofit and fit most round and square ladder rungs. They are available in half-round (Ø 20–35 mm) and channel profiles, in lengths from 300 to 500 mm. Installation requires no special tools. Square ladder rungs can be glued onto round ladder profiles to meet requirements in accordance with DIN-18799-1
What are Escape Route Markers and how are they installed?
Escape route markers in FRP with anti-slip surface and embedded black arrows indicating the evacuation direction. They measure 1200 × 100 mm and are mounted using three brackets per marker (one at each end and one in the middle). They can be installed on top of any existing surface.
Are Walkway Covers suitable for offshore conditions?
Yes. FRP Walkway Covers are manufactured by pultrusion with 55–65% glass fiber in an isophthalic polyester resin that is fire-retardant, corrosion-resistant, and UV-stabilized. They withstand at least 30,000 abrasion cycles (400 lbs), have an oxygen index of 30%, and have passed NFPA 258.
Which certifications do the Real Safety products have?
All anti-slip products are TÜV Rheinland certified with an R13 classification (the highest level according to DIN 51130). The products have been tested according to ASTM E648, ASTM E662, ASTM E84, and ASTM D4587 for fire, smoke, wear, and weather resistance. Both Real Marine and Real Safety are ISO 9001 certified.
Can the products be delivered in colors other than Safety Yellow?
Yes. The standard color is Safety Yellow (RAL 1003), but all products can be ordered in custom color combinations. Step Cover can also be customized with prints, logos, or safety text (e.g., "USE HANDRAIL").
Do you supply the entire Real Safety product range?
